Writers are readers at heart.

That’s where it comes from, the origin story: that magic that happened when an adult cracked open a book, and out sprang a story as colorful and as captivating as life itself. More so, even. From there it was a short path to reading them on my own, captivated by the pleasure of falling into their unique worlds.

Those electric moments: the inky darkness of Moria closing in over the Company when the watcher in the water slams the doors shut behind them; sneaking up the dusty stairs in the Marsten House as sunset nears; Spenser (with an S, like the poet) waxing on about needing more coffee as his repartee confuses a criminal.

Clearly, I grew up in a house full of books.

My love of books and stories led me to get a degree in English. From there, I followed a winding career path steeped in craft and creativity.

Through it all, books, stories, and writing have filled my free time. I’m up before the dawn seven days per week, bringing stories to life. History, fantasy, and horror all tug at my imagination, and I go where they lead me.

I’m not looking to be a global book-star. I’m just hooked on the craft. And I hope my books can, in their own small way, give readers some of those electric moments that drew me in to reading as a lifelong passion.

I still live in a house full of books, of course.

Because writers are readers at heart.

The Other Stuff…

  • Writes as Kevan Dale because... well, wouldn't you rather be mysterious if you wrote about witches and demons? (Also, my real name is significantly less gothic-sounding.)

  • Spent years building guitars for rock stars, then ran video game studios for the biggest names in gaming, and now teaches yoga (because life's too short to stick to just one dream job.)

  • Makes music when not writing about supernatural shenanigans (though no one has proven whether the two activities are related.)

  • Often trailed around by two dogs who may or may not be possessed (jury's still out on that one.)

  • Can be found running, rucking, cycling, and meditating when not doing all of the above (because clearly there's no such thing as too many hobbies.)
